Has this Ruddy Shelduck been hiding in the Mid-Yare Valley all winter? Dan Monk did well to find and photograph this bird (above) in early February at Cantley Marsh, which could well be the one seen in that area in November last year. It remained in the area through the month, also photographed (below) by Murray Smith.

This 2nd calendar year American Golden Plover was an unexpected bird at Buckenham Marsh in early May. A first for the site and a top rate find by Dan Monk and Jonathan Farooqi (who took this photograph below).

This Rose-coloured Starling was a nice surprise in mid June visiting garden feeders in Gorleston. The finder and photographer wishes to remain anonymous. 

This Common Scoter at Colney GPs was a good find by Robin Chittenden, especially for late June, though it remained in a 'permit only' area.

This juvenile Osprey flew through Strumpshaw Fen in late August. It sported a blue Darvic ring but unfortunately the code couldn't be fully read from the photos. A good spot nonetheless, found and photographed by Drew Lyness.

Whinchat were a bit late to arrive in the mid-Yare Valley this autumn, but this one made an appearance at Buckenham Marsh in mid-September. Found and photographed by Drew Lyness. 

This drake Greater Scaup was an interesting find at Cantley Beet Factory by David Russell who also took this photograph. Could it be the same bird that dropped in there last autumn?

Its been a good autumn nationally for Yellow-browed Warbler, but they're always a good find inland. Dan Monk spotted this one at Buckenham Woods in mid-October, where it was soon joined by a second bird. Photographed by Ben Lewis.

Although Dark-bellied Brent Geese are a rare but almost annual visitor to the mid Yare Valley Pink-footed Goose flocks this Pale-bellied Brent Goose was a first in living memory. Found and photographed by Johnathan Farooqi in early November at Buckenham Marsh.

A fantastic surprise in mid-January as both a male and a ringtail Hen Harrier roosted at Strumpshaw Fen. Ben Lewis managed to snap this record photo showing both birds together.

This White Stork was found roosting at 11pm at Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe on March 5th. A bird that had been tracked through north Norfolk earlier in the day and through Suffolk the following day. Found and photographed by Allison Allen.

Searching through the wagtails at Cantley Marshes can sometimes yield surprises, as Jonathan Farooqi discovered when he found and photographed this smart Channel Wagtail there in late April.

Its was a super morning for Drew Lyness when he found and photographed this Caspian Tern at Buckenham Marshes in mid-June. It stuck around for a few days and was later seen fishing from tower hide at Strumpshaw Fen.
